The Birkie storm delivered all that the forecast promised, and temperatures have dropped on the back side of the storm, as advertised. Jeff Tumbleson’s note this morning indicated that the current conditions look perfect for 330C powder. The 330C is a World Cup CODE powder for colder new snow – it runs very similar in range to the Start SFR75 that is another of our favorites in these conditions.
However, before we all get too excited, let’s remember that the storm started with heavy wet snow, but the snowpack has already dried considerably. Prior to race start the snowpack will have seen dew-point below zero F for over ten hours, with constant winds aiding the drying process. Regardless of the grooming plan, our best guess is that it’ll be a sharp and dry snowpack for race morning.
Therefor, our primary race recommendation remains:
Vauhti LF Green Paraffin (two layers is a good bet)
hfC21.1 or hfC21 powder
hfC21 Block
A second pair of skis for a warmer scenario would be:
LF Green Paraffin
HF Blue Paraffin
330C
hfC21 Block
Good luck!
