The forecast for Birkieland & Birkietime has shifted toward the snowy and cold end of the spectrum in the last couple of days. As of now, we’re feeling pretty solid with a recommendation of hfC21.1 powder. The 330C powder that I was leaning toward a couple of days ago still has a real shot – it’s range is very comparable with other successful Birkie waxes like Start SFR75 and Holmenkol Mid 08. But with overnight low temps forecast to be below zero F, and daytime highs in the low teens, a true cold fluoro with new snow range is looking like a good bet.
The other thought we’ve got right now is of skipping the HF Blue paraffin, and staying with a couple of layers of LF Green. The LF Green is a somewhat unique green range paraffin in the marketplace because it’s more elastic than many of its competitors, and has tremendous range, especially in new snow. If the forecast was less snowy, we’d still be inclined to lean toward the blue – possibly with a hardener. But given the new snow forecase for Thursday and Thursday night, we’re currently thinking that two layers of straight LF Green as a base for the 21.1 powder is the best call.
Of course, there’s time for all of this to change. We’ll make at least one more recommendation before it’s too late to panic and change everything!
